Building Effective Schools Together

Building Effective Schools Together

The B.E.S.T. program (Building Effective Schools Together), is based on positive behavioral intervention supports that help schools develop and implement positive school rules, rule teaching, and positive reinforcement systems school-wide.

Our school developed and adopted school-wide rules that were specifically taught to students. In addition, each quarter, students are chosen and recognized for outstanding or improved behavior.

Behavior Policy

Behavior Policy

Elkhorn Village staff wants to ensure that all students are provided a safe learning environment.

In order to ensure this, all students are required to follow the school-wide discipline policy. We believe that students need to be in the classroom, fully engaged and actively participating in their learning. Elkhorn teachers have in place a behavior management policy in their classrooms.

The policy is a preventative policy - structures, routines, procedures, and incentives are in place in order to promote positive behavior in all classrooms. Our teachers use a 5-step system for redirecting disruptive behavior.
  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Time Out / Seat Change
  3. Quick Conversation Outside
  4. Buddy Classroom and Reflection
  5. If a student does not change their behavior, the teacher may then fill out an office referral form and send the student to the office for further action.
Also, if the student commits a serious act which is a clear violation of Ed Code policy, he or she shall be sent to the office immediately for further action.
