Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Washington Unified School District! For the purpose of processing, volunteers are divided into two categories:
Category 1: These volunteers are assisting while in view of the teacher. This category does not require fingerprint clearance.
Examples: Room parent, day field trip chaperones, dance chaperones, science fair/carnival volunteers, and one-time classroom volunteer/presenter.
An on-going in-classroom volunteer, within the view of the teacher, does not require fingerprint clearance but must complete and submit the following information with the Human Resources Department:
- Volunteer Information Sheet
- Negative TB clearance
- Emergency Card
- Volunteer Orientation Handbook
Category 2: These volunteers assist on a regular basis, sometimes out of the teacher’s view. This category requires fingerprint clearance as well as other documentation. Category 2 volunteers will not be assigned to a school site until the following information is completed and on file with the Human Resources Department:
- Volunteer Information Sheet
- Photo ID
- Fingerprint clearance
- Negative TB clearance
- Emergency Card
- Volunteer Orientation Handbook
Examples: Adult safety patrol, field trip chaperone (outside teacher’s view), club sponsor, coach, overnight field trip chaperone, student mentors.
Upon request by the volunteer, the cost of fingerprinting clearance for Category 2 volunteers will be reimbursed by the district after 20 hours of service.
