According to author and reading teacher Penny Kittle, college expect their students to read between 200 and 600 pages a week.  We need students reading every day for at least 30 minutes in order for them to be ready for the future challenges of college.  Students should read at their level and should read what they find interesting.  It is fine if adults or siblings read aloud to them, if they listen to books on tape, or if the student reads aloud to others.  Those are all good ways to practice the language, vocabulary, and grammar skills students need.  They are welcome to read in another language other than English as well.  Parents, please make sure your child is reading every day!  It is the most important homework they have each day.
